Barco introduces innovative free-standing structure for tiled LCD video walls
Posted on Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Kortrijk, Belgium, 29 January 2013 – Global visualization expert Barco is showcasing its innovative new structures for tiled LCD video walls at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) trade show in Amsterdam. The Barco-designed OBLX series are free-standing structures, meaning they do not need wall support for stability. This, and a number of exciting features, differentiates the OBLX series from traditional structures.

Barco’s range of LCD video walls consists of high-quality and near-seamless displays that bring all the advantages of LCD to control rooms and other video wall applications. The benefits of LCD video walls include a narrow profile, easier setup and removal, and a more affordable pricing.

Now, to expand the applicability of tiled LCD video walls, Barco is introducing the OBLX-55 free-standing structure, which holds 55” LCD displays in a 2x2 landscape setup or a 3x1 portrait setup. Because these structures can be easily placed next to each other, there is no limit to the horizontal extension.

Positioning the controller

The iconic leg of the OBLX series structures not only looks great but is also designed to house a 19” rack-mountable controller. This means the controller is located by the video wall, and thus directly accessible. Another option is to install aClickShare Base Unit (for Barco’s meeting and collaboration system) or a DISplayer (Barco dzine’s digital signage media player) inside the structure. Eliminating the need for a separate rack in this way saves space and reduces the number of cables required. Furthermore, the leg can also house a LAN switch, a common on/off switch (controlling all the displays), and a multi-socket. For convenience, these components are accessible from both the front and the rear.

The OBLX series structures also make it possible to set up a video wall at any location, not only attached to a building. This further expands the applicability of video walls – allowing them to be placed, for example, in shop windows, at art exhibitions, and in temporary crisis coordination centers.

An accumulation of know-how

“We are very proud to show the OBLX series to the world,” says Peter Baumgaertner, Product Manager LCD Displays at Barco. “As experts in tiled LCD video walls, we have first-hand knowledge of how to install our products. All of this know-how was applied to the design of our new structures, which tackle some very important challenges that confront traditional LCD video wall structures. The design trim to protect the sensitive narrow-bezel LCD edges, the removable cover plates to house the cabling inside, and the swift and flexible setup are just a few of the features that will make the lives of LCD video wall installers and operators easier. Combine all that with the OBLX series’ other highlights, and you’ll know why this new structure clearly stands out from the competition.”
