Barco launches wide-screen tower display with high-bright LED backlights for air traffic control
Posted on Monday, February 11, 2013

Kortrijk, Belgium, 11 February 2013 – Visualization specialist Barco announces the launch of the TCD-361/LED tower control display for air traffic control applications. Using high-bright LED backlights, this 24-inch monitor offers excellent readability of text and images, regardless of ambient light conditions. The TCD-361/LED will be on display at the Canso World ATM Congress in Madrid and at ATC Global in Amsterdam.

“We are constantly looking for new ways to optimize display performance and reliability,” comments Steven Luys, Director Strategic Marketing Defense & Aerospace for Barco. “By incorporating LED technology into our ATC displays, we’ve been able to meet new industry challenges – such as energy efficiency and environmental requirements – while perfecting display performance in terms of brightness, resolution and ergonomics.”

High-bright, long-life LED backlights

Barco’s TCD-361/LED features full color HD resolution, presenting the most detailed information with superior image quality at all times. The LED backlights, combined with Barco’s proprietary stabilization technology, guarantee a stabilized brightness of no less than 600 cd/m² and reduce power consumption to 75 Watt in operating mode. Additionally, the display’s long-life backlight system ensures long-term, reliable performance.

High user comfort

The new tower control display has an integrated ambient light sensor to automatically adjust brightness settings in function of the ambient light conditions, ranging from bright daylight to dimmed night time, which helps reduce eye fatigue. The 24-inch wide screen provides users with a flexible and easily readable HMI display surface. The display is fan-less, offering low-noise operation for even more user comfort. Additionally, by using LED backlights, the TCD-361/LED allows for a slim, compact design for high spatial efficiency in the tower.

Preferred choice of the FAA

“We are dedicated to making products that guarantee safe and efficient air traffic. That’s why Barco’s product offering covers every segment of the air traffic management industry, from control towers over air traffic control centers to airline and airport operation centers. We have over 11,000 displays in the field, which makes Barco the preferred partner of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)”, concludes Steven Luys.

For a complete overview of Barco’s air traffic management solutions, visit the Canso World ATM Congress in Madrid, Spain (12-14 February) or ATC Global in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (12-14 March). Highlights at these shows will be Barco’s new tower control display, its ISIS 2K x 2K main display for ATC controller working positions, which also comes with LED backlights, and its advanced air traffic control software to reduce air traffic delays and improve airport processes.
