Besides yesterday’s story about the release of ‘The Bombardment’ in Barco Auro 11.1, there’s more exciting digital film news this week. The legendary small Belgian Cinema De Keizer will reopen its doors to the public tonight, after a successful avant-première of ‘Brasserie Romantique’ last Tuesday. Barco installed its new DP2K-10S digital cinema projector, designed specifically for small theaters, to ensure a bright future for this one-screen, unique cinema.
After Agnes Debaillie, the inspiration behind this cinema, passed away earlier this year, the future of Cinema De Keizer was uncertain. Luckily, Flemish Vice-Premier Geert Bourgeois decided to list the cinema – founded in 1924 – as part of the cultural heritage, and seven locals invested in their favorite theater.
“Barco’s new DP2K-10S digital cinema projector enables us to bring Cinema De Keizer into the digital age, while keeping the old era charm and character that is unique to our theater”, says Sofie Eeckeman, who will operate the cinema from now on.
The Barco DP2K-10S is a compact and fully integrated digital cinema projector designed for the special needs of smaller theaters. “The opportunity of Digital Cinema is not only for larger cinema chains. There is a lot of concern, just now, about the transition from 35mm to digital, which threatens the survival of many smaller, independent and art house cinemas. We developed the DP2K-10S with them in mind,” comments Tim Sinnaeve, Market Director, Digital Cinema.
